NitroDNS — Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the NitroDNS Chrome extension handles information when you use it to analyze a website. We built NitroDNS to be privacy-respecting: it has no accounts, no tracking, and no analytics.

1. Information We Collect

NitroDNS does not collect, store, sell, or share any personal data, and it does not track your browsing history. The extension has no backend server of its own and keeps no logs.

The only piece of information it processes is the hostname (domain) of the tab you are viewing at the moment you open the extension, which is read only when you actively click the NitroDNS icon.

2. How Information Is Used

To show you technical details about a site, the current hostname is sent to public lookup services to retrieve information such as the IP address (IPv4/IPv6), hosting provider, server location, WHOIS record, name servers, and domain-registration status.

The optional “Your Connection” view also determines your own public IP address (through a public IP-echo service) and looks up its location and provider. All results are shown to you locally in the popup and are never stored by the extension.

3. Permissions

NitroDNS cannot read, modify, or inject content into the web pages you visit.

4. Third-Party Services

NitroDNS does not use any advertising or analytics services. To fetch public technical data, it queries the following third-party providers, sending only the domain name or IP address being analyzed:

These providers process requests under their own privacy policies. In addition, the “Tools” tab contains links to external diagnostic sites (e.g., viewdns.info, dnsdumpster.com); those sites are opened only if you choose to click a link.

5. Data Retention

NitroDNS stores no data. Nothing you analyze is saved to disk, synced, or transmitted anywhere other than the lookups described above, which happen live each time you use it.

6. Children’s Privacy

NitroDNS is a general-purpose technical tool and is not directed to children, nor does it knowingly collect information from anyone.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page along with a revised “Last updated” date shown above.
